Warning! Not all health clubs are the same! Whether you choose BodyBusiness
or another quality health club, please review these Top 10 Factors to
Consider When Looking at Health Clubs to make sure you make an informed
decision.
1. Location:
Is it convenient to your home, work, or other activities? For most people,
this is a critical success factor.
2. Staff:
Are the staff certified, trained professionals? Having properly trained
professionals on site helps you to reach your goals faster, safer and
decreases your chance of injury. Do you feel welcome when you walk in?
The staff should be available to help you and you should feel comfortable
asking for help.
3. Atmosphere:
Do you feel comfortable in the club? Do you see other people that look
like you? This is very important for people just starting back on an exercise
program. If you don't feel comfortable, chances are you won't continue.
4. Facilities:
Is the club clean and well maintained? Does the club have all or most
of the services and equipment you would like such as a pool, hot tub,
massage therapy, personal training, child care, classes, etc.?
5. Crowds:
How crowded is the club at the time you will be using it? Schedule your
tour at the time you think you would like to exercise. Make sure the facility
and the number of members seems reasonable. If you like classes, will
you be able to get into the ones you like? Go and see for yourself.
6. Variety:
Does the club provide new programs, equipment and services on a regular
basis?
7. Reputation:
What sort of reputation does the club have? How long has this club been
in business? Is it part of a chain or locally-owned and operated? Has
it changed ownership? Ask friends, family members and neighbors what they
have heard.
8. Member Satisfaction:
Before or after touring a club, stop a member and ask them what they think
of the place. They will most likely be very upfront with you. Ask if you
can try the club a few times before joining or if there is any sort of
satisfaction guarantee.
9. Price:
Often this is the number one question from people when inquiring about
a health club. Make sure to get the prices in writing. Ask if you can
try the club at least once before joining or if there is any sort of satisfaction
guarantee. The membership should be affordable, but remember that you
usually get what you pay for. Make sure the contract has flexibility in
case you move, become ill or just need to put your membership on “hold/freeze”
for a while with little hassle.
10. Overall "Fit":
Some places just seem to fit you better than others. So go out and visit
two or three clubs and pick the one that "fits" you best. There
is a lot to be said for instinct.
We hope that this information helps you to find the right club for you!
